Trulia and Zillow are not accurate sources for Staten Island Real Estate.  I recently received this email from Trulia (see above).  It basically states that they have linked one of my listings to my Trulia account.  Good job Trulia.  Except for the fact that my office sold this listing almost 7 years ago!

Trulia and Zillow are filled with misinformation, incorrect photos, sold or expired listings still being advertised as for sale, even advertising homes for sale….that were never on the market!  It’s a disservice to clients who may already have to deal with a potentially frustrating real estate transaction.

Agents continually need to explain why Trulia and Zillow post such inaccurate information.  Both Trulia and Zillow allow any agent, for a fee, to have their name and photo appear prominently beside homes listed for sale in a given region, even if they aren’t the agent who represents the seller!  In reality, the agent in the photo may know little about the property or the neighborhood where the house is located, further frustrating consumer’s efforts to get accurate answers.

All of this further denigrates all real estate professionals and the housing market as a whole.

Realtor.com is reasonably accurate because it is linked to our local MLS, although it sometimes has some lag time between changing property statuses and price changes.  The best source for Staten Island Real Estate is a direct IDX (Internet Data EXchange) site such as SiborRealtors.com or www.Herman.NYC both of which have real time, up to the minute prices, property updates, and status reports.  Real time information is a necessary tool for today’s Staten Island home buyer or seller.

Approximately 98% of all real estate transactions start online.  Don’t you think consumers should be able to get accurate information?
